(Happy) New Year

  1. Gosh, what an intelligent, passionate, compassionate and inspiring piece of writing. You have so completely “got it”- what life is truly about. Don’t be under the misconception that you aren’t making a difference as an individual. Like a small pebble dropped in a big pond, your ripples of positivity and inspiration spread outwards and can have far reaching effects. On a cold and windy morning in a tiny corner of Cumbria, you’ve made one person’s heart sing a little louder. Thank you.

    1. Andy, thanks for your incredibly kind words! I had to stifle a chuckle when you said I have so completely “got it”, as often it doesn’t feel like that at all. I think I can describe it, but I have some work to do on truly “getting it”. That said, your post made me smile too this morning so that makes two of us who started the day off better – so thanks. And I wish you the best of new years up there – it must be (extra) beautiful this time of year – enjoy!

      1. Hi Sophie,
        Thanks for the thanks!
On the theme of inspiration, interestingly we were both inspired by the same words from Theodore Roosevelt. Your Rundinavia adventure was somewhat more epic than mine (like hugely more epic!) but I recently made a film based on those sage words for this year’s Kendal Mountain Festival family film competition (didn’t win – boo hoo!). Thought it may be of interest to see where the same speech lead me in somewhat more constrained circumstances.

As you rightly say, we set ourselves up for frustration and emotional failure if we try and change the world on a global scale but what we can do is to live an authentic and true life keeping to our own standards and spread some positivity and love in our smaller daily dealings with those around us.
If everyone aspired to that ideal what a wonderful world it would be!
        Keep up the good work!
        Have a brilliant 2017!
        Per aspera ad astra
